We all have tense, stress-filled lives packed with back-to-back activities, tasks and juggling numerous schedules.
Perpetual busyness, with no break in our day, seems to be the 21st-century norm.
If we are able to take a break, a vacation, a retreat or spend some time in nature, we notice that we return replenished and ready to make a positive difference. But that feeling doesn’t last.
And that kind of break is not usually on our daily schedules.
What then can we do to feel calmer on a daily basis?
One powerful tool is taking “Peaceful Pauses”, mini-breaks or “RESETS” (what I like to call them) in our day to slow down the speed of our mind and tune into the moment.
It gives us space to re-center and when we do, we’re more likely to pay more attention to our children from a calm and compassionate space. And most importantly they take hardly any time at all generally only 1-3 minutes. (Super perfecto for busy mamas on-the-go!)
Taking deep breathes in and out isn’t the hard part. I mean most of the time we are doing it without much attention. It’s the REMEMBERING to practice which is the hard part.
What if I told you could incorporate these peaceful pauses during tasks you are already doing?.
One of the ways I get busy mamas to remember to pause is by creating anchors- or visual or auditory reminders to turn mindless activities into mindful ones.
So for example, you probably open doors all day long right?!
Automatically. Without much thinking. But what if you trained yourself that every time you opened a door you would pause and start deep breathing for a minute.
You wouldn’t PHYSICALLY pause. Just mentally.
Yup, it’s kinda like Pavlov’s dog.
Over a period of time, you’ll be taking a calm pause every time you open a door. (Without must try)
So this week I have a challenge for you.
For the next week, I want you to pick a door you open daily it could be bathroom, bedroom, closet, car, your kid’s bedroom door, WHATEVER. Put a post-it note on that door that says “BREATHE DEEP”. Each time you open that door, you’ll take long deep breathes in and out for 1 minutes. It’s okay if your mind doesn’t stop wandering, you’re just creating a repetitive habit.
Be gentle with yourself. Most of us have lived lives of such constant distraction that learning how to be more present takes some time.
And if you’re really committed to learning how to “RESET” when you feel impatient, worried, imbalanced or anxious – then you’ll want to join me for my upcoming 5-day FREE Mindfulness Challenge starting on September 19th. You’ll actually be able to practice this technique along with other mindfulness techniques with me for 5 days.
