stop fixing yourself, how to fix yourself, play up your strengths, what are your greatest strengths, what are your special gifts, talents, purpose, life purpose, stop fixing yourself, enjoy your life, strengths, weaknesses, new years resolutions, intentions, change yourself, change

Isn’t it crazy how much time, energy and effort we invest in fixing ourselves?

Whether it’s being more patient, cleaner diet, or getting back in shape- we spend most of our time focusing on our bad habits.

We are constantly searching for ways to better ourselves by changing the things we don’t like.

The problem is we may commit to change for the first few days.  Things might even go so well we start to believe the voice in our head that says “OMG, this time is different. I’m actually going to make this happen. I’m going to stick with it for life”

Fast forward three weeks into the future. Life throws you a curve ball. You slip off track. Before you know it, you’re beating yourself up about how you suck. You give up and the old patterns continue.

What if there was a better, approach to becoming a better person that DIDN’T involve fixing your flaws?

What if instead of focusing on our weaknesses, we started focusing on our strengths.

If you’re tired of having a spiritual practice that constantly focuses on fixing your flaws and you’re willing to try something new, this blog is just for you.

Before we dive in, I want to give you some full disclosure. I’m not perfect at focusing on my strengths. We are hard-wired to want to fix the things we don’t like about ourselves.

So this may not come naturally at first, but I’ve found through my personal experience, the confidence you’ll feel from this practice is incredible. I hope the insight I’ve learned from playing up our strengths will help you.

SHIFT YOUR FOCUS away from fixing yourself

When we focus on what our greatest strengths are and commit to doing them more, we not only feel better about ourselves we can maximize our strengths and positively impact the world around us.

Each of us is born with special gifts that we are meant to bring forth in the world. They are the talents that come naturally to us and our unique expression of bringing those gifts in the world is part of our purpose here.

how do you discover your greatest strengths

I started 2017 by taking a VIA Survey online test that tells you your key character strengths and values. You can take the VIA CHARACTER TEST HERE.

This test processes the 24 universal character strengths like the love of learning, appreciation of beauty and excellence, bravery, curiosity kindness humor etc. This test ranks the 24 characters from strongest to weakest.

Rather than focusing on cultivating the ones on the bottom of your list, focus on the top 5 and began finding ways to use them every day. Embrace these strengths. Use them and you’ll start interacting with the world in a different way.

Look strengths in others

The beauty of focusing on your strengths is that it not only benefits you, it benefits those around. When you train yourself to see your strengths you begin seeing others strengths. By helping others acknowledge their strengths, you give them permission to cultivate the gifts that they are meant to share with the world.

Now it’s your turn.

In the comments below, tell me

What are your three biggest strengths and how you’ll try to focus on building up your strengths?

You can commit to becoming better when you have a solid plan of how you’ll follow-through.

Thank you, as always, for reading, watching and sharing!

Much love,
