SIMPLE MORNING PRACTICE TO START THE DAY OFF RIGHT

Featured Picture Blog-4, morning routine

How often have you rushed out of bed, hurried through your morning routine without taking a moment to think about how you’d like your day to go?

No I’m not talking about the tasks you need to accomplish that day. But what would have to happen for you to feel content and peaceful?

Rarely do we set an intention in the morning of how we want to feel throughout our day. So what happens?

We hurry through the day and before you know it, something distracts your attention or someone annoys you and you automatically react in frustration, impatience or anger.

You know what I’m talking about, right?

The key to being more mindful and compassionate during the day is how you program yourself in the morning.

Setting a clear intention of how you want to feel throughout our day makes it more likely that your words, actions and responses, especially during the challenging moments will be aligned with how you want to feel.

There is a reason we are given the gift to be alive another day. So each morning I ask myself, alright so what’s my purpose for today?

Here is my simple 3 step morning “purpose setting” practice.

Step 1: Before You Get Out Of Bed

On waking, either lay on your back in bed or sit up in your bed with your feet crossed in easy pose. Keep your eyes closed and take 3 long deep breathes in through nose and out through mouth.

Step 2: Ask yourself this question

  1. What is one thing that would make today great?

This should be something that makes you feel more connected, confident and fulfilled. How you would show up for your highest good. How you would take better care of yourself. How you will act in challenging situations or how you’ll feel more connected and full with yourself and others.

{Examples: “Today would be great if I am kind to myself. If I am patient with my children. If I meditate. If I stay grounded. If I have fun. If I laugh. If I workout. If I eat well or anything else that is important to you that will make you feel peaceful, calm, satisfied.”}

Step 3: Set Your Intention:

Make a strong declaration of how you want to feel by finishing this sentence. I repeat this out loud 3 times to myself and then I get out of bed.

I AM ____________.

{Examples: Kind to myself, I am patient with others, I am peaceful, I am easy-going, I am confident. I am well-rested. I am energetic. I am calm. }

1. I really recommend you do this practice before you check your phone or emails. I bet you anything you won’t get to it if you get sucked in by gmail, google or even worse FACEBOOK.

2. Set your morning alarm 5 minutes early. You don’t want to feel rushed when you do this.[/infobox]
