THE SECRET TO HANDLING TEMPER TANTRUMS (YOU PROBABLY HAVEN’T TRIED YET)

Do your children’s temper tantrums drive you to your wit’s end?

Have you tried it all… the time-outs, ignoring it, not feeding into their bad behavior or yelling but no matter what you do, it doesn’t seem like it’s solving the core problem?

The best way to handle tantrums is practicing tools of prevention, prior to the meltdown.

I honestly believe even as adults we have temper tantrums. When you give the middle finger to someone who cuts you off in traffic, when you argue with your spouse for not meeting your expectation, when we scold our children for getting dirt on their clothes, we lose our cool and have a tantrum.

Avoiding anger and frustration shouldn’t be the focus. Teaching our children how to navigate those uncomfortable emotions of frustration, anger and impatience is a more valuable skill.

Why? Because anger, frustration and impatience are natural emotions all adults face. The earlier we teach our children how to embrace these emotions without avoiding them, the more resilient they will be to bounce back from challenging life situations.

If any of this rings true for you, watch this week’s Tejal.TV for a new tip for handling temper tantrums.
