HOW BUSY MOMS CAN FIND TIME FOR FRIENDS

finding time for friends, spending quality time with friends

Do you ever struggle to find time for friends because you’re too busy being a soccer mom, dance mom or keep-my-head-above-water mom?

If so, you’re not alone. So many mamas struggle with neglecting our friendships when they are busy raising young children.

I totally understand, raising kids, working, keeping the house together is tough. It’s understandable that quality friend-time somehow gets put on the back-burner.

Keep in mind when folks, at the end of their life, are asked what were their greatest regrets, “Not making enough time for friends.” was on the top of the list.

That put things in perspective.

Too often we forget how important it is to nurture our friendships with our girls. Before too much distance and time has passed, let’s make a change.

But this week we are going to change that. This week we’ll learn three tips to stay connected to your soul sisters.

Get clear about your “a” friends

I was reading a book by Sean Stephenson called Get Off Your “But”:  How to End Self-Sabotage and Stand Up For Yourself, and one of the most important things to ask yourself is who are my “A” friends.

Friendships grow over time and your “A” friends are the ones in your life worth putting the effort to staying in connection with. They support you unconditionally. They equally value your friendship by putting forth equal effort to stay in touch with you. It feels like no time has ever passed by when you see them. And importantly, they help you grow into being a better person.

When time is limited, it’s crucial to get clear about the people who help us in our current phase of life. Who respect us and want to stay in contact too. So yes that means there will be some people you’ve known forever but don’t make the cut.

Don’t feel bad for friendships that haven’t lasted. Send them positivity and good thoughts when you think of them but don’t waste time feeling guilty about the friendship you once had.

check in once a month

Now that you know who your “A” list ladies are, make sure you try to stay connected at least once a month. Whether it’s a quick check in via text, phone date, in-person outing or even a “just because” card. This is crucial for connection.

When we know people are thinking about us, it enhances our trust in them and makes us feel loved. Checking in can be big or small, but if they cross your mind, make an effort to let them know you are thinking about them

CALL TO WISH HAPPY BIRTHDAY

This past birthday I got all of 2 birthday phone calls, about 45 texts and like 140 Facebook messages. We now opt to avoid any personal connection to wish someone a Happy Birthday. I mean it’s fine for you B and C-list friends but not you A-listers.

I’m guilty of sending a quick text instead of picking up the phone to share birthday blessings. This year I made a vow I would personally call all the women who are important to me on their birthday.

Whether we celebrate our birthdays or not, it’s nice to know people think of us on our special day.

This year join me in making the commitment to calling our special friends on their birthday.  It’s simple but creates a deep bond when your friend knows you are truly thinking about them.

There you go, simple ways to stay connected to your soul sisters.

Now I want to hear from you.
